Diary, 1722-1767.

His diary is a line-a-day record of the weather, the sermons he preached and sacraments he dispensed, his visits, his study habits, his salary arrangements, and other events in the life of an 18th century Massachusetts minister. The diary starts with his teaching activity in 1722, and continues to 1767; there is a gap for the period from 1741 to 1759. There are also a few loose funeral sermons enclosed in the second diary volume.

Nathan Bucknam (1703-1795) was born in Charlestown, Mass., the sixth of twelve children of Joses or Josse and Hannah Peabody Bucknam. He graduated from Harvard College in 1721, and taught school in Charlestown and Malden. He began preaching in Malden before being settled in Medway in 1724. He was a Calvinist, well-liked by his congregation. He was active in the ministry until 1786, when he finally laid his burden down. He died in 1795. From the description of Diary, 1722-1767. (Unkno...
